Jack White and Modern Rock

2 min read

Rock and roll, as a genre, is one that is characterized by its ability to incorporate several musical elements from a number of different sources and transforming it into something new. This is what enables it to continue evolving.

This characteristic is best embodied by Jack White, masterful musician and one of the film’s primary subjects. He is perhaps best known as the frontman for bands like The White Stripes and The Raconteurs.

Jack White traces his musical beginnings to his own childhood. During these early days, he struggled to find a musical identity of his own. This was mainly due to his family background where playing an instrument was deemed uncool. There is also the fact that he grew up in South Detroit where hip-hop and house music dominated the music scene.

Of course, as time went by, White eventually got comfortable in his own skin. Of course, it is also worth noting that that White fully embraced the influence of different musical genres on his music. In particular, he has been known to incorporate hints of the blues and soul into many of his songs.
